If you have not heard of the 3/50 Project…this Blog will open your eyes to the importance of shopping at locally owned businesses. The 3/50 Project tag-line is “Save your local economy three stores at a time.” The projects goal is to promote shopping in locally owned businesses while thanking customers for the positive impact that decision has on a local economy.
As a locally owned flower shop, since 1901, Welke’s House of Roses wants to share the details of this project in order to raise public awareness of buying from local businesses and how this will help our local economy.
3/50 Project
3 - The 3 in the 3/50 project asks consumers to think about which three stores they would miss if they disappeared, then remind them to shop locally. Welke’s House of Roses has been serving our community for over 100 years. Think of buying locally before you pick up the phone to call 800 Flowers, Pro Flowers or even Teleflora or FTD Headquarters.
50 – The 50 comes from the suggestion to spend a mere $50 per month in locally owned retail stores. If only half of the employed population made three - fifty dollar purchases it would generate more than $42.6 billion in revenue. That would make a huge impact in our sagging economy. Did you know that $68 remains in the local economy for every $100 spent in locally owned stores. By contrast, only $43 per $100 remains local when spent in national chains.
Think about the 3/50 Project before picking up the phone this Mother’s Day. Calling 800 flowers, Teleflora.com or Pro Flowers will not help our local economy. Call Welke’s House of Flowers or shop on-line at www.welkes.com
